40Hz – Music & Neuroscience Research

On Thursday, July 23, Casa degli Artisti hosts the Open Studio of Lorenzo Saini, the third artist in residence for 40Hz, Phase 2.

During his residency, Lorenzo composed a new 28 minute work, integrating low frequencies around 40 Hz into his musical language through the 40Hz Rack and the project’s shared protocol, in dialogue with the artistic direction and the scientific team.

The Open Studio combines a live performance with a new session of the 40Hz scientific research programme.

EEG measurements will be carried out on a selected sample of participants, while the audience will contribute to the data collection by completing scientific questionnaires before and after the listening experience.

The protocol also includes sEMG measurements, conducted in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Turin and technical partner LWT3, to observe muscular activity and physiological responses in real time during the performance.

The questionnaire is completed via smartphone and takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
