The 40hz Team
40Hz is shaped by a multidisciplinary community where music, neuroscience and research practices converge within a shared experimental framework. The project is structured around clearly defined roles, ensuring artistic freedom, scientific rigor and operational continuity.
Artistic Direction
The project was conceived and is artistically directed by Francesco Piccolomini Naldi Bandini, founder of 40Hz. He defines the artistic vision of the project, oversees the integration between musical composition and scientific research, and guides the long-term development of 40Hz as an open research platform. His role connects artistic practice, institutional partnerships and research strategy, ensuring coherence across all phases of the project.
Scientific Direction and Research Team
The scientific direction of 40Hz is led by Sasha D’Ambrosio, who coordinates the research framework, methodological design and validation processes. He is joined by Thiago Leiros Costa, neuroscientist and psychologist, who plays a central role in connecting artistic experimentation with scientific observation, contributing to experimental design, behavioral analysis and interpretation of results.
The research team also includes Simone Frettoli and William Geroldini, actively involved in EEG data acquisition, preliminary signal analysis and interpretation of neurophysiological responses collected during listening sessions.
Artists and Producers
At the core of 40Hz lies a close collaboration between artists and producers. Composers, sound artists and performers develop original musical works that integrate sub-frequencies within extended compositional forms, typically conceived as long-duration listening experiences. Producers support the artistic process by translating compositional ideas into coherent sonic environments, ensuring technical precision and consistency across different experimental settings.
Each artistic residency functions as a research unit, where multiple approaches to frequency integration, sound structure, exposure duration and musical language are explored within a shared methodological framework.
Casa degli Artisti Project Team
The operational and organizational structure of the project is supported by the internal team of Casa degli Artisti. Sara Giurgola leads production and coordination, managing artist residencies, public programs and operational workflows. Communication is coordinated by Ilaria Bosani, with Giulia Restifo overseeing communication activities and Emanuela Filippi handling press relations and media outreach.
Project management is carried out by Silvia Gandolfo and Carlotta Ceraudo, ensuring continuity between research phases, institutional partnerships and production timelines.
Volunteers and Participants
An essential component of 40Hz is the community of volunteers who participated in the research sessions. Through repeated EEG recordings using non-invasive technologies and structured listening protocols, participants contributed directly to the collection of behavioral and neurophysiological data. Their involvement grounds the research in real listening experiences and represents a fundamental contribution to the project’s scientific development.
Together, artists, researchers, producers, coordinators and participants form the living structure of 40Hz, a shared research environment where music operates as both creative practice and investigative tool.
