From September 3rd to 17th, the Atelier Musicale at Casa degli Artisti hosts a new residency of 40Hz Phase 2 with French composer and musician François Sivignon, aka Stegonaute.

Stegonaute’s work moves through ambient and cinematic music, combining analog synthesizers, tape loops, field recordings and minimalist electronic composition to create immersive sound environments, often described by the artist as “soundtracks for unseen films.”

His practice explores memory, texture and the emotional and physical dimensions of sound. Repetition, slow evolving structures, analog imperfections and subtle interactions between frequencies become tools to shape attention, introspection and sensory immersion.

Low frequencies already occupy a central place in his musical research. His compositions work with slow pulsations, deep vibrations and layered textures that interact with the listener both emotionally and physically. Within 40Hz, this existing language becomes the starting point for a new investigation into the relationship between sub frequencies, perception and listening states.

During the residency, Stegonaute will develop an original composition integrating sub frequencies around 40 Hz into his analog and textural sound world, working with the tools developed by the project, including the 40Hz Rack and the 40Hz Subwoofer, in dialogue with the artistic direction, the producers in residence and the scientific team.

The work will culminate in a public Open Studio on September 16, presented in two listening sessions. The audience will take an active part in the research through scientific questionnaires completed before and after the listening experience.

The protocol will also include EEG measurements on a selected sample, in collaboration with WhyPsy Lab and Università di Pavia, together with sEMG measurements developed with Politecnico di Torino and technical partner LWT3, observing muscular activity in real time during the sonic experience.

For the musical support during the residency, our thanks go to producers in residence IDRA and Brail.

Our thanks also go to the scientific, curatorial, technical and organizational teams, and to all the partners supporting 40Hz Phase 2: Università di Pavia, Politecnico di Torino, LWT3, Municipio 1 Milano, Music Innovation Hub, LifeGate, That’s Contemporary, Egidio Galvan and Urbantale.

L’unica cosa che verificherei prima di pubblicarlo è il titolo. Quello sopra segue bene il precedente di Lorenzo, però per Stegonaute vedo anche una versione più forte e meno seriale:
