Pareal, project by Federica Parente, is a sound artist and the founder of AUM Garden Project, a holistic research path dedicated to sound awareness and its transformative effects on psychophysical and perceptual states. Her practice moves across sound art, ritual listening, and vibrational aesthetics, with a strong focus on inner perception and emotional regulation.

Artist in Residence – 40Hz
Residency period: October 16 – November 7, 2025
Open Studio: November 6, 2025
Producer: Brail (Iacopo Sinigaglia)

During the final phase of the 40Hz residency program at the Musical Atelier of Casa degli Artisti, Pareal developed an immersive composition exploring the integration of 40Hz frequencies in both pure and modulated forms, investigating their potential in activating deep perceptual states and processes of inner connection.

Compositional Research and Techniques

Pareal’s research combines traditional acoustic instruments and electronic sound design, creating a dialogue between ancestral rhythmic practices and contemporary compositional strategies. Her setup included voice, Tibetan singing bowls and frame drums, alongside electronic textures and modular synthesis, allowing precise control over low-frequency components and rhythmic structures.

This residency represents the second phase of the 40Hz project to introduce an explicit rhythmic dimension, following earlier explorations of drones, binaural beats and isochronic techniques. With Pareal, rhythm becomes a subtle and meditative element, articulated through the resonance of Tibetan bowls and their interaction with electronic pulses, shaping a liminal and transformative listening environment.

The work draws inspiration from sonic shamanism, vibrational neuroaesthetics and practices of expanded consciousness, positioning sound as a medium capable of supporting emotional balance, introspection and embodied awareness.

Open Studio and Public Research Sessions

On November 6, 2025, the fifth Open Studio of the 40Hz Open Call was presented in two listening sessions at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM. As with all Open Studios in the project, the event functioned simultaneously as a public performance and a research setting.

EEG recordings were conducted on a selected group of participants, while the wider audience actively contributed to the research through structured scientific questionnaires administered before and after listening. This combined approach allowed the collection of neurophysiological and behavioral data in ecological listening conditions, reinforcing the methodological framework of the project.

Contribution to the 40Hz Compositional Protocol

Pareal’s residency represents an advanced step in the development of the 40Hz compositional protocol, expanding its scope through the integration of rhythmic structures grounded in acoustic resonance and meditative practices. Her contribution reinforces the project’s investigation into sound as a tool for care, presence and perceptual transformation, strengthening the dialogue between artistic research, neuroscience and collective listening.
