Casa degli Artisti is pleased to welcome Mattia Valentini, musician, producer and composer, as the second resident artist of Phase 2 of the 40Hz research project.

Mattia’s artistic practice explores the relationship between electronic music, sound perception and immersive listening. Throughout his residency, he has investigated the interaction between composition, low-frequency sound and psychophysical well-being, using the 40Hz research framework as an opportunity to expand his musical language and explore new compositional territories.

The residency also represents an important personal and artistic transition. Moving beyond a practice primarily rooted in traditional electronic music, Valentini has embraced a more experimental approach, working with unconventional sound devices, custom acoustic solutions and new compositional processes designed specifically for the 40Hz protocol.

Developed in dialogue with the project’s curatorial team and the neuroscientists collaborating on the research, his new work explores how sub-frequencies can become an integral musical element rather than simply a technical component of sound reproduction. The resulting composition unfolds through evolving electronic textures, deep low-frequency structures and immersive sonic environments, inviting listeners into an experience where perception becomes an active part of the composition itself.

The residency culminates in a public Open Studio on Thursday, July 2, where the composition will be presented for the first time.

As with every residency within the 40Hz project, the event combines artistic presentation with scientific research. Selected participants will take part in EEG recordings, while the entire audience will contribute to the study by completing scientific questionnaires before and after the listening session. Together, these measurements continue to support the neuroscientific validation of the compositional protocols developed throughout the project.

Through this residency, Mattia Valentini contributes a new perspective to the ongoing evolution of the 40Hz research platform, further expanding the dialogue between contemporary musical practice, immersive listening and neuroscience.
