IDRA is a Milan-based sound artist, ambient musician and producer, with a solid background in classical trumpet and advanced training in music therapy. Her practice is centered on deep listening and on the use of sound as an active tool for the regulation of emotional and physiological states, with a particular focus on anxiety, sleep disorders and stress.
Artist in Residence – 40Hz
Residency period: September 1 – 21, 2025
Open Studio: September 19, 2025
During her residency within the 40Hz research platform at Casa degli Artisti, IDRA was joined by producers Poche Cltv (Elasi and Plastica) and developed a new immersive composition specifically conceived to explore the perceptual and neurophysiological impact of the 40Hz frequency. Her work contributes directly to the ongoing construction of the shared 40Hz compositional protocol, developed collectively across the different artistic residencies.

Compositional Research and Techniques
IDRA’s research integrates 40Hz both in its pure form and in modulated configurations, through harmonic layering that extends into mid and high frequency ranges. Her approach combines artistic sensitivity with therapeutic awareness, positioning sound as a medium capable of supporting emotional balance and psychophysical wellbeing.
The residency introduced several technical elements into the 40Hz research process, including:
• the use of binaural beats and isochronic tones aimed at supporting brain stimulation
• the integration of biofeedback and EEG sensors for the real-time generation of adaptive frequencies
• a hybrid setup combining modular synthesizers and analog/digital hardware, enabling precise control over sub-frequencies and sound environments
As with all artists involved in the project, IDRA produced a series of audio tracks specifically designed for EEG-based listening sessions, allowing the research team to observe and measure neural responses under immersive listening conditions.

Open Studio and Public Research Sessions
On September 19, 2025, the Musical Atelier of Casa degli Artisti hosted the third Open Studio of the 40Hz Open Call, featuring IDRA’s work in two public listening sessions. These sessions were conceived not only as performances, but as active research environments, integrating live composition, scientific observation and audience participation.
EEG recordings were conducted on a selected group of participants, while the wider audience contributed to the research through structured questionnaires administered before and after listening. This dual approach allowed the collection of both neurophysiological and behavioral data, reinforcing the ecological validity of the research framework.
IDRA’s Open Studio stands at the core of the 40Hz experiment: a project that approaches music not only as a sensory experience, but as a living compositional process capable of dialogue with neuroscience. The residency represents one of the first applications in Italy of a rigorous scientific protocol to music conceived as a potential therapeutic tool, connecting artists, neuroscientists and the public within a shared research process.
