Casa degli Artisti is pleased to welcome musician, electronic music producer and composer Gabriele Vassalli as the first resident artist of Phase 2 of the 40Hz research project.

A co-founder of the experimental music project Box of Tangerine, Vassalli develops an interdisciplinary practice situated between musical composition, performance and sonic research. His work combines improvisation, electroacoustic composition and the use of the electric guitar as a prepared instrument, creating a distinctive language shaped by influences from noise art, avant-garde rock and computer music. Through this approach, he constructs immersive listening environments that engage perception as an active and transformative experience.

During his residency at the Musical Atelier of Casa degli Artisti, Vassalli has been working within the 40Hz research framework, exploring the role of sub-frequencies as compositional and perceptual elements. This new phase of the project expands the methodologies developed during 2025, introducing new compositional protocols under the artistic direction of IDRA and Brail, together with dedicated technical tools including a custom plugin and a purpose-built subwoofer designed specifically for low-frequency research.

For the residency, Vassalli composed a new work of approximately thirty minutes, where sub-frequencies travel through different acoustic and electronic sonic environments. Structured around improvisations on electric guitar and electroacoustic processing, the composition investigates how sustained low-frequency energy can shape attention, presence and perceptual intensity.

The residency culminates in a public Open Studio on Wednesday, June 10, offering audiences the opportunity to experience the work in a focused listening environment. As with all events within the 40Hz project, the presentation includes direct audience participation through scientific questionnaires administered before and after the listening session, while selected participants will contribute to the ongoing research through EEG recordings.

By bringing together musical experimentation, immersive listening and neuroscientific observation, the residency marks the beginning of a new chapter in the evolution of the 40Hz research platform.
