Music listening sessions as part of an ongoing research project

The 40Hz project has entered a new phase of research and is currently looking for volunteers to take part in EEG listening sessions.

After one year of research, artist residencies, and public performances, data collected from the audience have shown a clear psychophysical impact associated with the compositions developed within the 40Hz project. These results emerged in real listening contexts and provided a solid foundation for further investigation.

The current phase focuses on strengthening and consolidating these findings through EEG recordings. The goal is to increase the statistical value of the research by expanding the number of participants involved in controlled listening sessions.

The listening sessions

The sessions take place in the musical atelier of Casa degli Artisti, a dedicated and controlled environment designed to support focused listening.

Participants are invited to listen to six compositions developed during the 40Hz residencies. Each listening session lasts approximately 15–20 minutes and includes the use of an EEG headset to record brain activity during music listening.

The experience is simple and non-invasive and does not require any technical or scientific background.

Who can participate

We are looking for six volunteers willing to take part in multiple listening sessions.
The only technical requirement is having hair that is not too dense, to ensure proper contact between the EEG electrodes and the scalp.

By taking part, volunteers actively contribute to an ongoing research project that explores music listening through a rigorous scientific framework. Participation directly supports the development of future research phases and the refinement of the methodology.
